Almost ten years ago on January 26, 2005 we adopted
Deja from Boxer Luv.
She was 2 years old and named Ariel.
She had SO MUCH energy and quickly became very attached
to Ryan. We quickly found out that she did not like bikes
(or anyone on a bike) and would bite at their ankles til
they got off the bike?! She also was not a fan of hispanics...
not exactly sure why, may have had something to do with
her first few years of life??
Deja quickly became very protective of Ryan and I.
One day while Ryan was at work I was home alone with Deja and was
taking my trash can out front. I had opened the side gate and turned around to get the trash,
Deja started to growl and by the time I turned around there were two hispanic men
walking up close behind me. Deja then started barking and running towards them,
after a few curse words from them they started running down my street!
Not sure what would have happened if Dej' weren't there, I'm just sure glad she was! :)
On the flip side of that story, one day after getting kids home from school
Peyton was a tiny baby sleeping and Deja was outside.
I heard lots of screaming coming from outside so I looked out the peephole
to see Deja barking like crazy and the neighbors son and another neighbor trying to hold her
back?!? I told the older kids to stay there and ran out to get Deja... she didn't play well with
other dogs and it was a little dog!! Luckily the dog was fine and I walked deja home. Two minutes later my neighbors husband, her, and her dog were at my door YELLING at me??
AFter apologizing I see Deja run across the street again?! The kids had let her out side and the gate was still open!? Ya, the neighbors WERE NOT happy!? I wasn't happy about Deja either!
Besides not playing well with other dogs, Deja has been a GREAT dog!
When bringing all four kids home from the hospital I always worried a little about
what Deja would do. After smelling the babies she became very watchful over them.
Whenever they would cry she would do her whining cry until we came to help the baby.
Sadly after almost ten years with Deja she began to have problems with her
back legs and hips. She would slip and slide all over our tile floors like
Bambi stil she would fall on her rear. She then would stay on her rear til someone
helped her back up. Sunday we noticed that she wasn't really eating any more
(not even people food or sliced cheese! here favorites!)
That night she moaned all night but didn't want to go outside or eat.
She just laid in our room not wanting to come out.
Ryan and I both knew how much pain she was in and how old she had gotten, and we
knew that the best thing for her was to be put down. :(
Ryan took her Monday afternoon and was able to stay with her til she
was down. We then told the kids that night and poor Blake ran to his room
crying. Ryan went in with him while I talked with the girls.
Peyton would ask, "where Deja go?" I would tell her "with Heavenly Father, remember?"
She would then clap her hands and say "yay Deja!"
We all then went into Blakes room and laid on his bed and talked about how much happier Deja is now that she is pain free!
Kenzie just kinda watched as Ryan, Blake and I would cry... when I asked her if she was
sad about Deja she replied, "ya, but I'm just glad it wasn't one of us!"
She is already planning what our next dog will look like?!
~
I'm so glad we were able to adopted Deja and that we were able to have ten GREAT years
with her!! With all the ups and downs no matter what she was always a great protector to our family
and always a very loyal dog.
We'll always think about her and know that she is no longer in any pain! :)
RIP Deja Girl!
All Dogs Go To Heaven! :)
